Ultrasound Therapy

Vibrations/acoustic pressure from the head of the ultrasound machine penetrates deep into body tissue, joint and bone causing gas and vapor-filled bubbles to form and oscillate at a molecular level. This in turn increases the cell permeability of calcium and sodium ions causing an alteration in the electrical activity of both nerve and muscle cells which results in decreased pain and spasm. It also triggers a reparative response inside cells, increasing collagen synthesis, collagen strength and the secretion of histamine and chemolactic agents, which promotes healing and encourages the removal of tissue debris.
